What this site is and is not
The short answer
Nothing on definedbenefits.com is tax, legal, investment or insurance advice for your situation. The site is an independent educational and referral site; it is not an insurance company, a registered investment adviser or a plan administrator, and it never holds plan money. Every example on the site is a labeled illustration, and the site publishes no testimonials, no client results and no investment returns.
Is anything on this site advice for me?
No. definedbenefits.com publishes general information about defined benefit, cash balance and 412(e)(3) pension plans. Nothing on the site is tax, legal, investment or insurance advice for your situation. The rules are general and change, so talk with your CPA, your attorney and an enrolled actuary who has seen your census before you act.
An enrolled actuary, licensed by the federal Joint Board for the Enrollment of Actuaries, values the plan each year, certifies the minimum and maximum contribution, and signs Schedule SB of the plan’s Form 5500.

Who stands behind an insurance contract described here?
An annuity or insurance contract is a promise by the insurance company that issues it. When a page on definedbenefits.com describes a particular contract, the page names that company. The site names no insurance company today, so it describes how these contracts work under the law and promises nothing about any company’s contract.
NAIC Model 570, Section 6A (opens in a new tab)Does this site show investment returns or results?
No. Defined Benefits LLC is not a registered investment adviser and gives no investment advice. definedbenefits.com publishes no investment returns, no return targets, no projections of what a plan will earn, no client testimonials and no client results. Every example on the site is a labeled illustration built on stated assumptions.
Under the federal rule for investment adviser advertising, a target or a projection of returns counts as hypothetical performance, which an adviser may show only under conditions the rule sets.
17 CFR 275.206(4)-1(d)(6), (e)(8) (opens in a new tab)What does the full disclosure say?
The full disclosure covers who runs the site, what it is and is not, who designs and runs the plans, how Defined Benefits LLC may be paid, and how the site treats advice, examples, guarantees, government agencies, your information and accessibility. Each part appears below in full.
Who runs this site
definedbenefits.com is owned and operated by Defined Benefits LLC, a [STATE] [ENTITY TYPE] based in [CITY, STATE]. This site began in 2026. It has no connection to any earlier use of this address.
What we are and are not
We publish plain-language explanations of defined benefit, cash balance and 412(e)(3) pension plans for small business owners, each with its source in the statute, the regulation or the agency page it comes from. We introduce owners who want a proposal to an independent plan firm. We are not a law firm, an accounting firm or an actuarial firm. We are not a plan administrator, a plan trustee or a custodian, and we never hold, receive or direct plan money. We are not an insurance company, a registered investment adviser or a broker-dealer. We do not sell, solicit or negotiate insurance in any state.
Who designs and runs the plans
Plan design, actuarial work, plan administration and any annuity or investment products described on this site are provided by [PARTNER FIRM LEGAL NAME AND ROLE, PENDING THE OWNER'S WRITTEN CLEARANCE], a firm independent of Defined Benefits LLC. Every plan is designed by that firm's enrolled actuary on your own census, and every figure you receive from it is that firm's, not ours.
How we are paid
Defined Benefits LLC may receive compensation from [PARTNER FIRM LEGAL NAME] or from an insurance company if you adopt a plan or buy a contract after an introduction from this site. The terms of that compensation are set out in a written agreement and will be disclosed to you in writing before you sign anything. You pay us nothing for the information on this site or for an introduction.
Not advice
Nothing on this site is tax, legal, investment or insurance advice for your situation. The rules described here are general and change; every page shows the date its figures were current and the source they came from. Before you act, talk with your CPA, your attorney and an enrolled actuary who has seen your census.
No testimonials, no results
We publish no client testimonials, reviews, ratings or results. Any example on this site is a hypothetical illustration built on stated assumptions, labeled 'Illustration,' and is not a prediction or a guarantee of what any plan will deduct, earn or pay. Your figures depend on your age, pay, employees, plan design and an enrolled actuary's calculation.
Guarantees
Where this site uses the word 'guaranteed,' it refers to a named element of a named insurance company's contract, to the extent the contract's premiums have been paid. No other guarantee is made by anyone, and no plan, deduction, return or outcome is guaranteed.
Government agencies
This site is not affiliated with, endorsed by or approved by the Internal Revenue Service, the Department of Labor, the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation or any state or federal agency. Statements about those agencies cite the agency's own pages.
